I am an appointed Code Enforcement Officer in a few small municipalities near where I live in Pottsville PA. I have been told by the owner of the property that I live in that I must move. He wanted us out on December 30th. Us is myself and my 12-year-old son that suffers from asthma and minor issues that his pediatric psychologist diagnosed him with during COVID 19. I have obtained an attorney due to him filing for eviction at the local Magistrate, but I am not certain that I will be safe from being homeless. I have a good career and am doing better financially but still digging out of the financial hole this has all caused me so there is no cushion or emergency fund in my bank account. In addition, my sons’ school has closed 3 times since the start of the school year and mandated quarantine. Where will I quarantine if I’m homeless? I don’t have the ability to use ERAP funds because this landlord took all of it then decided to make me leave. My rent is paid up in fact until the end of November I had a credit. I have tried to find a place but the only locations available are so outrageously priced that I cannot afford to move. Unless of course I move my son into an efficiency apartment, and we sleep on bunkbeds.

Obviously if that is what needs to be done it will be. I just wanted to tell my story about a landlord so greedy he wanted to evict a single father and his child during the winter in the middle of the holiday season after using up all the emergency funding this family had available to them so he can continue to feed his greed by selling the home to the highest bidder based on the housing market while he brags in a voicemail about not be able to take my call to plead for an extension into the spring because he was on a plane back from a fishing trip in Boca. I give a voice to the ones that need it in the Municipalities that I proudly serve so they are not taken advantage of by men like this. Now I sadly have to use it for myself because men like this try to use their station and wealth to harm anyone they can, and it is time for a change.
