Matthew and I were evicted by our landlord in Mesa, Az. We are now living in my mom’s closet. I am an advocate and closest to Matthew but never really “lived” with him til the very end because he felt threatened by our landlord and didn’t want to/couldn’t be alone. Matthew has Cystic Fibrosis, he is now doing everything he can to avoid COVID-19 and stay out of the hospital. We knew the move was going to stress him out and the CDC moratorium helped a few times in court, but the landlord just kept filing new reasons, and then he just never gave a court date on the last notice.

He raised Matthew’s rent in April knowing the new rent was $200 more than what Matthew got in disability. This is when I kinda stayed a lot overnight. Matthew and some of my own stuff is currently piled up in the back yard for the entire world to see and we aren’t allowed on the property anymore.

I’m sad and scared and nobody here in this state seems to cares about covid or helping people who don’t have money. If you don’t own property you are nothing in this state. You can be saved and helped here not by your government – maybe try your church, if you have one. There’s no one to call about what happened to us. Even the judges are in on it. There must be something that can be done?
