I am writing you to let you know that my husband, who is a senior citizen, lost his job on March 7, 2020. My husband is 65 years old, and he worked in places across Miami, Florida. He goes to different office buildings asking attorneys, judges and business professionals to let him shine their shoes and do shoe repairs. He has been doing this for the last 40 years, and we have been getting by with his tips to pay our rent. My husband works directly with the public, face to face communication, and now the job he has done for so long he won’t be able to do anymore because the COVID 19 pandemic.
I cannot have him do this job anymore, because of his age, and because of social distancing, there are not many people working from offices. Most of the business professionals are wearing tennis shoes to work, and the offices are not open at full capacity. They are working from home. My husband is devastated, because we now cannot pay our rent, both for us and for my mother who is 75 years old. We face being evicted once the government opens up. We only need assistance paying the rent or need assistance in finding a place to stay. We don’t want to move because we don’t have the money, and we’re now facing eviction.
My husband is devastated because he knows at his age, it will be hard for him to find a job. He receives $375.00 a month from his retirement, and he can’t make it. His devastation is making him mentally disturbed. We just need assistance in helping us pay this rent, if we can get in Section 8, we can still stay in our home. If we get evicted I don’t know what we would do with the two elderly adults in the home. Please help my husband keep a roof over our head, because he is not able to go back to the job that he so loved for 40 years. We are begging for someone to help. Please do not turn a head on this posting. This is starting to affect my husband mentally. Please can someone reach out to us and help my husband.
