With a two-year-old daughter, my partner and I became so terrified as the pandemic got more serious. My partner is a disabled veteran and our daughter is autistic, so I’ve been the only one who could really work, but when the pandemic hit, I couldn’t get my license renewed with the state being shut down. The person that we once saw as a friend, who allowed us to rent from him, quickly turned into the big bad wolf. He wouldn’t give us the chance to pay him. He said he didn’t want our money; he wanted us out.
I expressed to him we had nowhere to go yet, being low income, with no stimulus check and with our pets. But he didn’t care. He took us to court. I was on the lease, but not allowed at the hearing due to the landlord’s lies. My partner was sick, and I handled every payment made to the landlord, but even the judge didn’t care to see the evidence we had and allowed him to lie under oath. We had the original copy of the lease agreement. All the landlord had was screenshots of the lease. I highlighted and sent to him where he was in breach of contract, but still we were NOT given a fair trial. Instead we were bullied and pushed onto the streets.
The harassment, retaliation, theft of federal documents from our mailbox, threats from the landlord’s wife, along with sexual harassment from them both—the judge didn’t care to hear any of it. He didn’t care that my landlord was putting a disabled veteran and her family on the streets out of pure hatred and revenge.
