I recently received an eviction notice from my landlord, who is an evil man. In the process of moving out, there a was a mysterious “power outage” and we lost air conditioning in the middle of what can only be described as a climate crisis summer from hell.
My son, Carlos, who is slightly over weight, attempted to fix the damage that had been done to our breaker box, but was severely electrocuted instead. He is currently in the hospital after being infected with covid 19, and we’re terribly worried and angry that this global pandemic has not been taken more seriously in our small town.
My husband and I are now living out of our SUV, wondering how we will find somewhere to live, pay our sons medical bills and if we will ever enjoy our family tradition of eating blueberry pancakes on Sunday mornings again.
People who were once our neighbors now refer to our SUV as the N-word house when they walk by (even though my husband and I are Latinx) which only adds to the pain of our situation.
We would love to work our way out of our predicament, as we would have when we were younger, but I lost both of my feet to the diabetes and my husband, Carlos Sr, is blind.
People need to understand that there are real people on the other side of these policy decisions and that to throw us out on the street like sacks of stinky good-for-nothing trash is criminal.
